Connect Slack to WorkTracker
Your own messages, grouped into conversations — not noise.
What you need
- A Slack workspace where you can create (or install) a Slack app.
Setup
Create a Slack app
Go to api.slack.com/apps → “Create New App” → “From scratch”, pick a name and your workspace.
Add user token scopes
Under OAuth & Permissions → Scopes → User Token Scopes add: channels:read, groups:read, im:read, mpim:read (to list your conversations), channels:history, groups:history, im:history, mpim:history (to read them) and users:read (for names).
Install and copy the token
Click “Install to Workspace” at the top of OAuth & Permissions and approve. Copy the User OAuth Token (starts with xoxp-).
Paste it into WorkTracker
In Connections → Slack, enter a workspace name (you can connect several) and the xoxp- token, then sync.
What WorkTracker collects
- Your own messages, grouped: one item per thread you participated in, plus time-clustered bursts (gaps ≤ 30 min) per channel or DM.
- Conversation text is fetched transiently for AI summaries — never stored.
Only your own messages produce events. Text is read transiently when the AI writes a summary; WorkTracker stores the summary and the conversation reference, never the messages. Credentials are stored encrypted (AES-256-GCM) and are never shown again or returned by the API.
Troubleshooting
- slack: missing_scope
- One of the nine user scopes is missing. Add the full list under User Token Scopes and — important — reinstall the app to the workspace afterwards; scope changes only apply on reinstall.
